Winemaker Notes

A bold and savory expression of site, the 2023 Paloma opens with notes of kalamata olive brine, cassis, and dried hibiscus, layered over red rock and a trace of wild oregano. On the palate, the wine deepens with plum, tapenade, and a dark
fruit melody. The entry is focused and bright, supported by fine tannins and finishing on spice and vibrant acidity.

The 2023 growing season arrived cautiously. Budbreak delayed to the last week of April, the vines in no hurry. May broke records before cooler weather returned, slowing growth into bloom. What followed was a beautiful Oregon summer: warm, dry days and cool nights, the rhythm the Laurelwood District was made for. Harvest came earlier than normal, fast and furious. Grapes were harvested September 16–21.

IN THE CELLAR

The fruit was hand sorted, 100% destemmed. Fermented in small lots with five days of cold soak to increase aroma and color, the peak temperatures reached 90 degrees. The fermenters were aerated or manually punched down twice a day (for 14-20 days). This wine was aged in French oak barrels (40% new) for 16 months.
